An Operating System is the software that interacts with the hardware of a computer and works as the intermediary between the installed applications and the hardware, including peripheral devices such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run software, it sends requests to the OS through an API (Application Program Interface) and the interaction is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Similar to a personal computer, web servers also feature an Operating System which serves as a host for any software installed on them, including script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etcetera. A virtual machine can be generated on a physical one, so it is possible to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast to the physical server host Operating System.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

Our VPS server solutions include three Linux distributions that you could choose from for the Operating System of your new server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. In addition to being free, the OSs are very stable and safe and the key reason to offer you all 3 of them is to make sure that you can run each app that you'd like, since different pieces of software may have different requirements with regards to the environment they can be used on. Each one of the three OSs is backed by a large community of developers who have created thousands of software packages which you can install and use on your VPS. In accordance with the Operating System which you select, you will also be able to select between three different Control Panels to manage your web hosting content. Also, if you decide that you need a different OS, we could always reinstall the server with it. As an optional upgrade, we also offer you weekly updates of the Operating System for optimum stability and security.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

In case you decide to obtain one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the order page since we want to give you a larger choice regarding the system environment on your server as different applications may have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian feature different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and enjoy a stable and risk-free web hosting service. Depending on your decision, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always replace the Operating System if the one you've selected initially doesn't meet the requirements of the software which you'd like to run. We can also upgrade the OS on a regular basis in order to keep it as risk-free as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
