The word “hosting” doesn't describe only one service, but a number of services that provide different functions to a domain address. Having a site and e-mails, as an illustration, are two independent services despite the fact that in the general case they come together, so most of the people see them as one single service. In fact, every domain has a couple of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that manages each particular service - the former is a numeric IP address, that identifies where the website for the domain is loaded from, while the second one is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that deals with the e-mails for the domain name. For example, an A record is 123.123.123.123 and an MX record can be mx1.domain.com. Every time you open a site or send an email, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain address has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. In case you have custom records on their end, the browser request or the e-mail will then be forwarded to the correct server. The idea behind employing separate records is that the two services employ different web protocols and you may have your site hosted by one service provider and the e-mail messages by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting account through our company and you want to move either your website or your e-mails to an alternative provider, it will take you literally only 2 clicks to do so. Our Hepsia Control Panel offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you'll be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you wish to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the standard 2, it won't take more than a few clicks either to add them. You may also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a certain MX record is going to have. The propagation of each record that you change or set up is not going to take more than a few hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which shows how long a record will stay active after it is modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

With the semi-dedicated servers that we offer, you are going to have 100 % control over the records of all domain addresses and subdomains you add in your hosting account. You can easily check what A and MX records every one of them has using the DNS Records section of the Hepsia hosting CP and changing any record takes only a couple of clicks. If you want to switch your web or email hosting provider, you can change the necessary record and point your domain to the other company for one of the services, while you still carry on using the other one through us. Also you can keep the main domain address here, while you change the A record of only one of its subdomains. If you are changing the MX records and you need additional ones on top of the standard 2 we have, you can create them with ease and set a different priority for every single one.
